The projet

The project “GENMEDOC: creation of a network of Mediterranean plant conservation centers from the MEDOCC area”, aims to promote the exchange of technical information and the adoption of common protocols in the domain of conservation of the genetic resources of Mediterranean flora taxa, especially those growing in the habitats (either priority or not) included in the Directive 92/43/CEE (Habitats Directive), approved by the European Council on 21st May 1992.

This proposal is included, eleven years after the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (The Earth Summit, Rio de Janeiro, 1992), in the initiatives whose aim is the conservation and valuation of biodiversity, one of the European environmental priorities, reflected in the declared purpose of building and developing a European Ecological Network (NATURA 2000) for the conservation of the most important elements of biodiversity. The aim of the project is to contribute to this network by providing a large amount of information concerning “in situ” and “ex situ” conservation of species from the involved regions.

Le matériel génétique, multiplié de façon convenable, peut être utilisé aussi pour la restauration des milieux. ( Institut des Régions Arides, Médenine - Tunisie. © 2005 Pietro Pavone - DBUC).
